American College of Bankruptcy Elects Chapter 13 Trustee Marie-Ann Greenberg as a Fellow

By Isabel C. Balboa, Chapter 13 Standing Trustee for the District of New Jersey (Camden)

The American College of Bankruptcy will mark its 30th anniversary in 2019. The College consists of more than 800 Fellows, representing the highest caliber of insolvency professionals. The College is comprised of scholars, judges, lawyers, financial professionals, international Fellows and Consumer Bankruptcy Trustees. The College is the largest financial supporter of bankruptcy and insolvency related pro bono legal service programs in the United States. It conducts a number of educational programs, promotes scholarly reports and maintains the National Bankruptcy Achieves at the University of Pennsylvania. On March 15, 2019, the College will induct Chapter 13 Trustee, Marie-Ann Greenberg to its 30th Class.

Marie-Ann is one of 36 inductees to this year’s class and joins 12 other Chapter 13 Trustees, previously elected to the College, one of whom has since been elevated to the Bankruptcy Bench. Election to the College is highly selective. The College, through its Board of Regents, vets and nominates candidates to the Circuit Admissions Council based on a nominee’s record of sustained achievement in the insolvency field. The nominee must also reflect the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, and strong leadership in the enhancement of the bankruptcy and insolvency profession. The nominee must also demonstrate scholarship and a strong knowledge of the profession.

Marie-Ann exemplifies the characteristics which the College seeks to recognize and promote among its members and the community of insolvency professionals. Appointed as Chapter 13 Trustee for the District of New Jersey (Newark vicinage) in 2004, Marie-Ann brought to the trusteeship years of experience as a partner in a law firm with a large insolvency practice. She quickly acquired a reputation as a knowledgeable and well-respected Trustee, fostering excellence and professionalism in the Consumer Bankruptcy practice. She is an active member of the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees and a frequent lecturer and contributor of articles to ConsiderChapter13.org, as well as other scholarly publications. Marie-Ann is past-president of the National Data Center and a member of a number of organization which seek to advance education and professionalism in the practice of Consumer Bankruptcy. Marie-Ann has distinguished herself professionally among her peers and the Bankruptcy Bench. It is for these reasons and her sustained commitment to service that the College elected Marie-Ann to this year’s class.

This year’s induction will take place at the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island just across San Diego Bay in California. This will be a black-tie affair with representation from distinguished College members, Judges, academics, and representatives of the national and international legal and insolvency professions. The induction ceremony at the Hotel Del Coronado will be an opportunity to recognize the efforts and achievements of one of our colleagues, NACTT, and Academy member.
